I made this film in 2012 for my fine art degree. I wanted to express some of the mystery I see in this most ordinary of places. Some places feel so ordinary that they begin to feel quite odd.
A song and video I made to showcase some of my art and concepts. I'm interested in the big questions: life, death and everything in between. Far out shit.
A song I wrote a long time ago.
Apart Love Will Tear Us by Toy Division ft. Yoda. My interpretation of the Joy Division classic. I originally made this about 15 years ago.
OMG! WTF? Add me now on Facebook! I actually wrote this song before Facebook existed but adapted it for a more contemporary vibe.
A song about feeling funny on a council estate in England.
Words, music and film by Matt Hopper. Walking round Dent Road, a circular road at the far edge of the Bricknell estate, I noticed a signpost that doesn't have a sign. It doesn't say STOP DOING THAT BECAUSE IT IS ILLEGAL. It doesn't say anything, it just stands there signifying nothing, nothing but its own redundancy. I try to give it my own meaning here.
A little song and video I made in the autumn of 2016. I love trees. I love the way they snarl at the bricks and mortar. Scenes from the Bricknell Estate and Beverley Westwood.
"Right Here" - a song about something being wrong.
An alternative version of Everything In Between. Some of the trees of my housing estate are very old. They were part of a farm which had been here since the medieval period. They give this place warmth and character. I wrote the poem almost 25 years ago and put it to this tune. I filmed myself just being near the trees without too much preparation or artifice.
Just another manic Sunday on ye olde Westwood in which Matt Hopper quests valiantly across this magical realm of lost gods and golfers to find the final resting place of his Celtic ancestors.
Written about 2004. Weird and scary days.
